And because I can’t miss an opportunity to praise this IP even more, Mo Dao Zu Shi Q is cute, funny, and much better than a chibi spin-off has any right to be.ĭeca-dence was the third show I watched during the Summer season, and damn, when did Anime level up like this? Getting one good show and several decent ones per season used to be the norm, now, despite cancellations, I usually get at least two that are interestingly different, if not more. Mo Dao Zu Shi’s writing was just refreshing and honest, and the current wave of Webtoon adaptations are similar in that regard. The casual violence played for laughs and the character archetypes especially. Something I realized after falling in love with Mo Dao Zu Shi hard last year is that, while I love anime as a medium, I’m kinda tired of its tropes. I heard that the adaptation was very rushed though, which is a shame. The OP is a banger, and the animation is nice, but most importantly, it’s a fun ride. If this was just the (badly adapted) prologue, then I can’t wait to experience the real thing.ĭuring the summer season, Crunchyroll released their second Webtoon project, The God of Highschool, this time in the hands of MAPPA. This show is effective at everything it is trying to achieve and the only show I regretted watching weekly more than this in 2020 was Haikyuu!!, the cliffhangers were really something else. If you watched/read it, you’ll know who I’m talking about. I love Khun, and I hate a certain other character with a passion. The opening arc is a bit reminiscent of HunterxHunter in its “smart” approach to shounen-style storytelling, but I’m glad to say that this show has no intention to brag about just how fucking smart it is all the time, nor does it need to explain itself. I’ll definitely check out the Manhwa when I have the time. Tower of God was the only show I finished in Spring and it’s quite fantastic, or at least the source material and the soundtrack are. It’s ridiculous, stylish and both the OP and ED are good.

Seriously, I’ve never seen Tumblr so horny just what was up with that? Apart from not being able to see the insane sex-appeal the main character apparently has, I enjoyed myself watching it when it continued in June. Spring saw cancellations left and right, among those one of the most popular new shows, Fugou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited. If I end up liking Miyavi after all it’s solely the fault of this show. Id:Invaded meanwhile was a sleeper hit, probably because it’s animation is a bit lackluster. A true gem of a show I’d love to see more of. But it never needs to be gory for shock value, or weird just to mess with its audience. If it doesn’t make you go “wtf” at least once per episode I don’t know what will. I finished two shows in Winter, Dorohedoro and Id:Invaded” The former is an insane ride start-to-finish, incredibly brutal and totally messed up.

Now, let’s talk about the new shows of 2020. The Big 3 are entertaining as hell and a blessing every time they’re on screen, but the school festival drags on forever. Oh, and season four has both its best and worst arc so far. It’s a perfectly enjoyable 7/10 with some nice animation from the ever-amazing studio bones, yet with this being a huge money maker, it begs the question why both Bungou Stray Dogs and Kekkai Sensen are prettier shows. So far though, it doesn’t need to go there (unlike Fairy Tail, this isn’t trying to have its cake and eat it regarding consequences, mostly). The characters are entertaining, but I wouldn’t shed a tear if any of them were killed off, and I don’t believe the show would dare to do that in the first place. I don’t remember having an emotional reaction to anything happening in this show. It’s fun, but very superficial fun, and the fights tend to be a bit boring. It’s something I miss gravely in My Hero Academia, which I finally watched last year. Now, this will sound weird but please hear me out: Haikyuu!! is the currently running shounen jump title that most inherited Naruto’s core strength, namely weaving both a technical and an emotional narrative into every “battle”, even if there is no actual fighting involved here. It gets me to cheer out loud for fictional volleyball, that should be all you need to know about its level of quality. I don’t think calling this one of the best sports Anime ever made is a controversial opinion at this point. Getting sequels out of the way, we got a new season of Haikyuu!!, which was a bit of a slow burn at first but that ultimately worked to the season's advantage.
